In a record of sorts, Frontier Lifeline Hospital, Chennai performed heart transplants simultaneously on two patients in March 2010.

The transplants were carried out on a 22-year-old man with dilated cardiomyopathy and a 32-year-old man with a failed coronary artery bypass graft. Both patients were in a critical condition and in dire need of a heart transplant when their prayers were answered thanks to the remarkable gesture of organ donation from two families.

According to Dr. K.M. Cherian, it was a coming together of technology, teamwork and exceptional coincidence (in terms of matching donor with recipient). The police facilitated smooth traffic flow so that the donor heart could be handed over to the transplant teams as quickly as possible. Time is of the essence for successful outcomes in transplant surgeries, particularly so in the case of heart transplants. The two teams successfully carried out the life-saving heart transplants
