The second event 'Samsaara – The Circle of Life' was held in Puducherry at the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) on 29th August 2011. Dr. DilipKumar Baliga DMS(Director of Medical Services),Puducherry, was the Chief Guest. The campaign was presided over by Dr. N.K.Mohanty Additional Director General, Department of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi. Dr.K.S.V.K.Subba Rao Director, JIPMER, Dr. Ashok Kumar Das Medical Superintendent, JIPMER and Dr. S. Palanivelu, Senior Regional Director, Regional Office of Health & Family Welfare (TN & Puducherry), Govt. of India were also present on the occasion. The campaign focused on kick-starting the organ donation initiative in Puducherry. Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee, MOHAN Foundation spoke on the current status of cadaver transplant in India and Dr. Mathew Joseph, CMC Vellore spoke on the identification and maintenance of brain dead donors. Dr. George Kurian, gastroenterologist from Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) briefed the audience on the Transplantation of Human Organs (Amendment) Act 2011.
