Professor Ian Wilmut has moved on from sheep to pigs. The man was catapulted to fame with the creation of Dolly, the cloned sheep, is now trying his hand at cloning pigs. He feels that pigs would be the perfect source of organs for transplant into humans – a step forward for xeno-transplantation.
An auction of a different kind – a “fully functional” human kidney went up for sale on the Internet on the popular auction site eBay. Bidding went through the roof with on-line shoppers willing to shell out more than $5.7 million for it. A seller identifying himself as “hchero” from sunrise, Florida announced, “Fully functional kidney for sale. You can choose either kidney. Buyer pays all transplant and medical costs. Of course, only one for sale as I need the other one to live. Serious bids only.” The minimum bid requested was $25,000. The bidding continued till someone realized that what was going on was illegal and it was stopped.
