It has often been said that eye donation and organ donation should become the norm, rather than the exception. A family in Kolkata has demonstrated just that by donating the eyes of four family members. The eye donations took place in 2003, 2005, 2008 and 2010. Mr. Narayan Prasad Sharma, 63, and his two sons Pradeep and Prakash have been instrumental in establishing this family tradition. The family members whose eyes were donated are:
1. Late Gaurishankar Sharma
(father of Mr. Narayan Prasad Sharma)
Date of Donation – 15.09.2003
Eye Bank, Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Kolkata-700 073
2. Late Kiran Sharma
(wife of Mr. Narayan Prasad Sharma)
Date of Donation – 02.11.2005
Vanmukta Eye Bank, Salt Lake, Kolkata
3. Late Chothmal Asopa
(father-in-law of Mr. Narayan Prasad Sharma)

Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya Eye Bank, Guwahati
4. Late Krishna Devi Asopa
(mother-in-law of Mr. Narayan Prasad Sharma)

A family tradition worth emulating…
