" Let us try not to waste organs" was the sentiment that brought together leading hospital in Chennai to start the " Initiative for organ sharing Groups" (IOSG). The first meeting was held in December 1999 under the auspices of MOHAN Foundation. The following hospitas are part of the IOSG: Apollo Hospital, Madras Medical Mission, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institution, Sundaram Medical Foundation and Christain Medical College, Vellore. MOHAN Foundation facilitates the activities of the IOSG as it has been working towards promoting organ donation for the past three years and has established its credibilty in the mind of the public. The group is now seven months old and organs have been shared amongst the various hospitals to ensure that no organ donated is ever wasted. It is this spirit of sharing that is required to carry the transplant programme in India forward.
